Disney Dream Girls 143 - Festival of the Arts and EPCOT Day

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls podcast for, show number 143 for Sunday 29th January 2017. As always, if you wish to listen to the podcast, whilst reading this blog, you can click on the player below.

So what do we have in store for your this week? Well how about the trio of Disney food, art and music? Firstly, Michelle and Jayne talk through the menus of the kiosks at the brand new Festival of the Arts over at EPCOT. Then, we are joined by Curt Stone of Geekin on WDW Podcast, as he was fortunate enough to visit and enjoy the delights on offer.

Curt starts his day with a quick Test Track visit and then he goes over to Norway for some delicious treats from our firm favourite - Kringla Bakeri. If you listen to the podcast, you will hear him then talk through the delicious food that is on offer at the festival. To aid your salivations, Curt has kindly shared some pictures with us and we have also added some from the official website too.

Doesn't everything look amazing? Well... I'm not sure about the purple sweet potato pie! This from what we have heard is a more upmarket food kiosk offering than the Food and Wine Festival as the focus here is on the presentation and the food flavours. In fact, you could say the chefs have upped their creative skills in the plating of their offerings.  Pre-cronut, Curt also managed to meet Lou Mongello!

In addition, Curt visited the art element of the festival. Work was showcased from Herb Ryman and Mary Blair. In addition, there were drawing classes, chalk artists and contemporary Disney artists to visit. Plus, something he really enjoyed, you can have your picture taken whilst within famous pieces of art!

The final element of the festival was based around the muscial arts. Unfortunately, Curt didn't get to visit this but it features an array of well known stars from Disney on Broadway. All for the price of a park entrance ticket! If you manage to go, we would love to hear from you!

Yes my friends this is the headlining act of the breakfast offerings. The other offerings include a hotdog topped with hash browns and corndog bites from Caseys Corner. Cereal and ice-cream (not in the same bowl - unless you are feeling particularly inclined!) from the Plaza.

Finally, a ham, egg and tomato waffle from Sleepy Hallow. What are your thoughts? Both of us welcome the quick service additions but wish they would be rolled out to other parks - particularly the Animal Kingdom.

Having finished our breakfast, Michelle announces her 2017 Disney trip plans. In August 2017 she has booked a trip to Walt Disney World and will be staying in the Wilderness Lodge. Due to her research, she managed to save just under $3000/£2423! So make sure you listen for her top tips!

For our final feature, we are joined by James from the Creepy Kingdom Podcast. He was fortunate enough to be at Disney California Adventure for the Final Check Out of The Hollywood Tower of Terror Hotel.

James queued for three hours to be amongst the last few park guests to ride the attraction. Michelle was very lucky to catch up with him to talk about the experience. However, if you want to hear an expanded explanation, you can hear it on his own Podcast - The Creepy Kingdom Podcast.

Disney Dream Girls 141 - Disneyland Shanghai Trip Report

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls podcast for, show number 141 for Sunday 15th January 2017. As always, if you wish to listen to the podcast, whilst reading this blog, you can click on the player below.

Coming up on this show we are joined by Kat and Lewis for the first part of their two-part trip report that sees them visit initially Disneyland Shanghai and then Hong Kong Disneyland.

Shanghai Disneyland officially opened on the 16th June 2016 and is located in Pudong, Shanghai. The park is owned by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Shanghai Shendi Group. The park consists of Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Fantasyland, Treasure Cove, Adventure Isle and Tomorrowland. Toy Story Land is planned to open in 2018.

They travelled from Australia to Shanghai and stayed off-site first to experience Shanghai and then had four park days, staying at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel at Club Level. This is something they highly recommend as the price point was comparable to deluxe hotels at Walt Disney World and comes with a host of benefits, all of which they discuss on the podcast.

During our chat, we discuss the parks attractions and they share some top tips which ensured they got the optimum experience. The one attraction they enthused about the most was the Tron Lightcycle Power Run. This is an opening day attraction and is based on the Tron film series. It currently is the fastest attraction in any Disney theme park, reaching speeds of 60mph. Their top tip is ask for the front row - you won't regret it!

Kat and Lewis particularly enjoyed leaving the park and going to Disneytown. As Disneyland does not serve alcoholic beverages, if you want a drink with your meal, it is an ideal destination that can be walked to very quickly. They enjoyed a meal at Wolfgang Puck Kitchen but there are also a few other familiar names such as The Boathouse, Starbucks and The Cheesecake Factory as well as more traditional Chinese cuisine. When it comes to shopping, Disneytown has some very familar names such as Lego, Pandora, Crocs, Superdry and Sephora.
