DDG 254 Keeping Keto at Disney

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 254 for Sunday 31st March 2019.  If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us in iTunesLibsyn, on Stitcher Radio or via any good podcast catching app.

Firstly, for those celebrating today, Happy Mothers Day!
We are so delighted to announce that on this weeks podcast, our guest is Christine Fox of the Divas Dish Diz Podcast. She is: the daughter of an imagineer; a former cast member herself and now the author of an amazing book called Keeping Keto at Disney. Before you say... ugh I don't need to listen as I am not following a keto diet... get your finger off the stop button as this is not just about keto!

As you know, we both follow a low carb and high fat way of eating, so when we found out there was a book to help us keep to our eating plan at Disney - we had to invite the author to be a guest on the show.

Christine talks about herself and her Disney upbringing. She shares details about how Disney fits into her life. Being a local, she visits the parks is very different to how we, say from further afield, would visit.
Then we move on to talk about how she came to write the book, the research it involved and the level of detail it goes in to. Whilst the book is based on Walt Disney World, there are plans for every single Disney theme park and cruise ship to have an edition solely dedicated to them. As soon as the book was released in the UK, Michelle ordered a copy and read it cover to cover in basically one evening!

So, my thoughts on the book... it is a great portable size (plus there is a Kindle version available now too) and it gives details on over 60 Walt Disney World restaurants - from the parks to the resorts.

For each eatery, Christine shares a little detail about the style of the restaurant and a description of what she ordered (with pictures). In each case, she had the chef visit her (and in most cases names the chef) and discussed options to ensure the food was truly keto.  It is a great guide and gave us some insight to how to ensure we can keep to our eating plan at table service restaurants.

Sadly, it does not tell you a Mickey bar ice-cream is keto because lets be honest... its full of sugar and sugar isn't keto. It keeps to the facts and imparts information in a very user friendly way. Would it be useful for other diets other than keto? Yes! Lots of information is given about the preparation and modification of the food (such as avoiding canola oil).

What is Keto?
A keto diet is a very low-carb diet, which can help you burn fat more effectively. There are different types of keto depending on how strict you want to become. However, it is not just about loosing weight, it is also about considering the type of fuel that is taken in by the body and ensuring it is unprocessed and as chemical-free as possible.

If you want to find out more about the diet, we highly recommend using the Diet Doctor website and their recipes. As with any lifestyle changes, we are not medical professionals and urge you to seek medical advice before making any changes to what you eat.

DDG 253 The Kat and Lewis Pre Trip Show

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 253 for Sunday 24th March 2019.  If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us in iTunesLibsyn, on Stitcher Radio or via any good podcast catching app.

On this weeks show, Michelle is joined by Kat and Lewis (of Disn Down Under) to talk about their upcoming epic trip to Disneyland, Walt Disney World and then on for a seven day cruise on the Disney Fantasy!
Kat and Lewis on a past adventure
On the show, they discuss some of their plans and Michelle uses this opportunity to share top tips from herself, and other listeners, to ensure Kat and Lewis have an amazing trip!

In Disneyland, they were unsure about the Steam Train Tour. Firstly, they could not see any dates but also whether it would be as good as Walt Disney World's version.

The Lilly Belle Carriage
Lewis pointed out, for him the draw was a ride in the Lilly Belle carriage.
The View from the Chefs Counter
Another first for Disneyland for them is going to be eating at Napa Rose Chefs Counter. Michelle has previously done this (and heartedly recommends it).
Pop Century - Watch Out For the Beds!
With a short stop in New Orleans, they are then off to Walt Disney World for a split stay at Pop Century and then on to The Polynesian Resort.
The Monorail Transports You Around The Loop For Dinner
During that part of the trip, they have a whole host of highlights but one that we speak about in detail is the Highway in the Sky Dine Around Progressive Dinner - thanks to listener Jodie and all of her top tips!
They end their epic quest with an Eastern Carribean Cruise  on the Disney Fantasy!

Disney Dream Girls 252 - A Magical Disney Trip and Cruise

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 252 for Sunday 17th March 2019.  If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us in iTunesLibsyn, on Stitcher Radio or via any good podcast catching app.

Coming up on this weeks show, Michelle is joined by travel blogger - Becky Manion. Together, the duo discuss her latest trip, which included a road trip from Orlando down to Miami.
Pirate Night On The Disney Magic
A Cast Member Gave Becky A First Trip Button
Becky picked up a hire car and drove down to Disney's Vero Beach Resort. They stayed there one night in a standard room. Becky loved the airy feel of the resort, as well as the many Disney touches, which included Dole Whip!
Vero Beach Is Right On The Beach
The Lobby
After a further drive, they arrived at the port in Miami, where the Disney Magic awaited them. Their cruise was a five night Marvel at Sea itinerary. Having already done the Star Wars at Sea, Becky was curious to see how this differed. The good news was that this cruise was much much better. From the content to the organisation - Becky was impressed! The only downside being the incredibly well hidden Marvel shop!
Lots of Characters to Meet
The cruise had a stop at Castaway Cay and Becky loved this! She managed to get her hands on her first 5K Disney medal too!
Awesome Bedrunner

Disney Dream Girls 251 - Disneyland Food and Wine

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 251 for Sunday 10th March 2019.  If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us in iTunesLibsyn, on Stitcher Radio or via any good podcast catching app.

Coming up on this weeks show, Michelle is joined by fellow podcaster - Tommy Allison and together they talk about Disneyland.

The show begins with a general chat with what's happening over at Disneyland.

Jessie's Critter Carousel
Due to open in April 2019, Disney are currently adding the final finishing touches to the new addition to the Pixar Pier area.
World of Color
Finally, this fan favourite is now back!To ensure a good spot, Disney Dream Girl Podcast Family members suggest considering a dessert package but you can also opt for a meal package. Both of these enable either a guaranteed seat or standing view of the show. However, Fastpasses are available as well as standby and these options are free!

Galaxy's Edge
Post recording the show, opening details were released. However, Tommy shares some details from the press event.
Disneyland's will open 31st May 2019. However, if you are wishing to enter the land between that date and up to the 23rd June 2019, you will need theme park admission PLUS a no-cost reservation for admittance to the land. Details on how to make this reservation have not been released as yet.
Walt Disney World have planned a phased opening with The Millenium Falcon: Smuggler's Run opening on 29th August 2019 and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening later in the year.

According to the press details, the capacity for the lands will be limited and access may be restricted or unavailable depending on guest demand or other factors. This applies to whether you have a hotel package, are Disney Vacation Club members or Annual Pass Holders. So the news is - just because you have park entrance it does not mean you will be able to access the land.

Food and Wine Festival
From 1st March through to the 23rd April 2019, this food and drink festival runs in Disney California Adventure.

Tommy recommends purchasing the Sip and Savor Pass as a handway of purchasing your food and drink as it will save you a few $.
Nuts About Cheese

Together, Michelle and Tommy talk through some of the festival highlights and Tommy makes some personal recommendations, based on what his family has tried.
Cream Yoghurt Cheesecake
Whilst the festival is a much smaller even that Walt Disney World's version, the food offerings look amazing. There is such a wide range of things to try.
Jalepino Lime Margarita
Above is the drink Michelle chose for Jayne. However, we all know Jayne loves a good burger (albeit minus the bun) so below is the Petit Impossible Burger, which looks pretty amazing. Lena Allison tried this for us and said it was delicious.
Yum! However, you may wish to try the dessert that Michelle is yearning for - the Black Forest Parfait.
For the absolute foodie,  why not attend one of their special events where a celebrity chef will make a dish as well as guests being able to enjoy a buffet brunch.
So that wraps up this weeks show, we will be back next week with lots more Disney chat!

This week we take a quick look at the changes coming to Epcot's entrance with the announced removal of the Leave a Legacy monoliths and plans to transform the existing area.

We then look forward to this years Flower & Garden Festival. This years event will run from 6th March through to 3rd June. In addition to all the delicious food, there are seminars, events as well as nightly music rocks concerts.

So moving to the good stuff - the food. We take an alphabetical stroll through some of this years offerings and raise the question which do you prefer Flower & Garden or Food & Wine?

Both girls liked the sound of the Mickey Tart from the Flavourful Kitchen; a peanut butter mousse with strawberry jam and boba pearls. However, for those that prefer the slightly lighter food options there are lots of other dessert options that aren't as heavy.

Citrus Shortcake: Orange Chiffon Cake, Lemon Curd, Mandarins, Whipped Cream, and Citrus Crumble (V)
Even at the time of recording, a festival favourite was turning out to be this little guy!

The Orange Bird sipper cup with Orange Cream Slushy is available from The Citrus Blossom and is going to surely be the hit of the festival.

There are plenty of options for vegetariants such as this fried green tomato dish.
Fried Green Tomatoes with Blue Crab-Fennel Salad, Remoulade, and Smoked Paprika Oil
Another fabulous dessert we salivated at the sound of is available from Northern Bloom - the mouth watering Griddled Maple Pound Cake with Warm Peach Compote and Sweet Corn Gelato featuring Burton’s Maple Syrup.

Again, we are not afraid to try some of the fruitier options so perhaps the Tropical Mousse Cake with layers of passion fruit cake, coconut mousse and a tropical fruit glaze with fresh pineapple from La Isla Fresca.

Or how about the Local Wildflower Honey-mascarpone Cheesecake with Orange Blossom Honey Ice Cream garnished with Fennel Pollen Meringue Kisses and Petite Lavender Shoots from the aptly named The Honey Bee-stro!! Or another savoury option that caught Jayne's eye was the seared tuna.

Chilled Soba Noodle Salad with Pan-seared Tuna and Wasabi Dressing
We end this weeks show with a look at some park reviews and offer some tips as to how to make sure your Disney experience is all that you'd wish it could be.
