327 A Mixed Bag Of Disney Weird and Wonderful

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 327, for Sunday 9th August 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio, or any good podcast catching apps.
On this week's show, we start with sharing some Disney history from this day, before moving on to sharing some weird and  wonderful sights from our past travels to the Disney theme parks.

It Is All About Mary But Not...
On 9th August in 1899, Pamela Lyndon Travers OBE, was born as Helen Lyndon Goff  in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia and sadly passed away on the 23rd April 1996.

After her father's death – when she was 7 – the family moved to a family members sugar plantation in New South Wales and were supported by a great aunt. She changed her name to Pamela after World War I and began an acting career but had to support herself and wrote for a Sydney newspaper.
In 1924, she left Australia to set up home in England but travelled and following a trip to the Soviet Union, her first book was published called Moscow Excursion. Shortly after, in 1934, she fell ill with pleurisy and as she was recovering took to writing a fantasy story.
Mary Poppins was the first of eight books ranging from 1934 to 1988 and were illustrated by Mary Shepard (she was the daughter of the illustrator for the first Winnie the Pooh books).
During World War II, she was working for the British Ministery of Information in Manhattan, New York. Around this time, Roy Disney got in touch about allowing Disney to use her Mary Poppins character.

She never married and had an adopted son called Camillus.
Strange Theme Park Sights
During our trips to the parks, we have seen many a strange thing. So we thought we would share some with you on the show... Michelle's top two were:
Nappy change in the Dumbo soft play pre-queue but leaving the dirty diaper.
The preacher who got escorted from the property.
And you will have to listen to the show to hear the rest! Do you have a weird and wonderful Disney story to share with us? Let us know!
Michelle also announced that she has booked a trip to stay at the Newport Bay Club hotel in Paris later in the year but there will be more about this oncoming shows.

That's about it for this week. You can find us @DisDreamGirls on Instagram and Twitter. We have the Disney Dream Girls page on Facebook as well as the Disney Dream Girls Podcast Family.

322 Disney and Alice in Wonderland

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 322, for Sunday 5th July 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio, or any good podcast catching apps. Welcome to this week's show notes and we have one main topic - Alice in Wonderland.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, under his pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It was originally published in 1865 and has been translated into 97 different languages. From the book, there have been many film versions over the years - including an X rated version! And to find the link to that one and Star Wars - you will have to listen to the podcast!

The Disney version of the film was released in 1951 and even today, the characters are known and loved by many. This shows that they may be identifiable to modern society as well as well-crafted. We start our discussion by looking at the characters and where to find them in the Disney theme parks.

For many, character meals are the best places to guarantee meeting characters from this franchise and Disney has a few options from a children's party to breakfast or dinner.
Michelle reminisced back to her first Disneyland Resort trip and shared about meeting the Mad Hatter and Alice at Goofy's Kitchen.

Meanwhile, Jayne recalled meeting characters at 1900 Park Fair, where Alice took a shine to a then young Ethan.
Then, we look at Alice in Wonderland in the parks, and there are the teacup rides, a dark ride, and mazes plus character meets.

Additionally, the Disneyland Hotel at Tokyo Disneyland has the most amazing themed hotel rooms to this franchise.
We then daydream a little about how else these characters could be more present in the parks.

What else would you like to see in the parks to enhance this franchise?

309 Tommy's Top Ten for A Disney Park

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 309, for Thursday 9th April 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio or via any good podcast catching apps.

On this week's show, we welcome our good friend and fellow podcasters - Tommy Allison and we set him the challenge of creating his own bespoke Disney theme park. So below, you will find his ten attractions.

1. Starting out his must include - The Original People Mover with the Tahitian Terrace resurrected with delicious Polynesian foods.

2. Next, another attraction from the past of Disneyland would be an updated version of Circle-Vision 360 featuring the history of Disneyland.

3. To a wonderful new take on a classic dark ride, he would like to add the Beauty and the Beast attraction that is currently being built in Tokyo Disneyland. On to this, he will add an upscale dining establishment. To see a sneak peek - click here to the Disney Parks Wesbite.

4. Next, he gets creative by adding an amalgamation of the existing Snow White dark ride with the Seven Dwarves Mine Train that is over in the Magic Kingdom. This new attraction would have a dining experience in the mining element of the ride.

5. His next take is from Hong Kong Disneyland, where he would bring across the trackless ride - Mystic Manor.

6. Another attraction from the past he would like to bring back is the Skyway and theme this with a snack style treat box.

7. For a thrill ride, he would like to add the Tron attraction that exists in Shanghai Disneyland and is being built in the Magic Kingdom.

8. Finally, Tommy has decided to add a boat ride and for this, he will steal Sinbad's Storybook from Tokyo DisneySea.

9. Another Tokyo attraction he would bring to his park is the Star Jets and these would have a themed ice-cream parlor.

10. His final attraction would be the Pirates of the Caribbean but with additional elements, perhaps an even real-life mermaid lagoon.

So that is Tommy's Ten for Disneyland. What would you ten look like?
