On this week's show we have some 'On this day in Disney history', some Disney news and we end out talking about some of the amazing character dining experience that are currently available.

Walt Disney World has announced the return of park hopping from the New Year. Guests will still need to reserve their first park of choice for the day but from 2pm will be allowed to 'hop' elsewhere, providing that attendance limits can still be met.

The festive season will see mini firework shows happening at the Magic Kingdom and while these won't be the big spectaculars we are used to seeing, it will be great to see a little of something 'normal' happening.

Food at Tomorrowland Terrace

New eateries are opening - or should we say re-opening. Both The Crystal Palace and The Tomorrowland Terrace are set to bring forth additional food options whilst at the Magic Kingdom. What do you fancy on the menu?

Next, the girls tackle a listener question about the best options available at the moment for a character meal. While there are a number of options available, it must be remembered that while characters will be around all physical distancing of characters to guests will still take place.

Cinderella Royal Table
Options include Cinderella's Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood & Vine at Disney's Hollywood Studios with Minnie Mouse and Mickey & Minnie at Topolino's Terrace over at Disney's Riviera Resort. Where has been you favourite place for a character meal?

The good news is that Chef Mickey's over at the Contemporary Resort is set to resume it's character breakfast from December 16th December. This is a great chance to see Mickey and his pals while enjoying traditional breakfast options such as waffles, pancakes or banana bread french toast.

On this week's show, we are joined by some of our podcast listeners for a fun food challenge. So listen in with our friends Kacey, Catherine, Tracey, Paul and Donald as we chat around the Magic Kingdom.

The challenge was to have two snacks and two meals in the Magic Kingdom along with any beverages of choice.

However, we found that some of our favourites were not available and it proved a more challenging idea that we first thought!

Where would you eat? We found it quite challenging however, the good news is more eateries and more snacks are becoming available each day!

Buena Vista Street is opening up from 19th November for a special shopping and dining experience. Guests will be able to eat at:

  • Carthay Circle Lounge for alfresco dining
  • Fidler, Fifer and Practical Cafe
  • Smoke Jumpers Grill
  • Award Winning Weiners

  • Julius Katz and Sons
  • Kingswell Camera Shop
  • Trolley Treats

Before attending, guests should be aware that parking is via the Simba lot in the Downtown Disney area and is charged at $10, there may be mobile wait lists if areas get too congested, masks must be worn by anyone 2 years and above, there will be temperature screening on arrival and social distancing rules must be followed.

Do you plan to visit? Please let us know about your experience!

Walt Disney World, as usual, have introduced a range of tantalising treats but which ones tickled our fancy?

Magic Kingdom

For Michelle, they all look so stunning but none of the flavours enticed Michelle.

For Jayne, she agreed that they all looked very impressive but was struggling to choose which one to go for. She was definitely not tempted though by the Pistachio Thai Tea Float.

Disney Hollywood Studios

Michelle, with her super sweet tooth plumped for the hot chocolate and of course - the cookie!

Jayne plumped for  the Holiday Whoopie Pie. a red velevet whoopie pie with a classic cream cheese filling.

Disney Animal Kingdom

Michelle already loves the desserts over at Satuli Canteen so when she saw there was a special white chocolate peppermint cream mouse; she was sold!

Jayne chose the Pumpkin Ice Cream Sandwich, yummy pumpkin cookies sandwiched with vanilla ice cream.

EPCOT

Michelle chose the Buche de Noel well... because it is Christmas and chocolate is never going to be a bad choice!

Jayne couldn't resist the  Spiked Frozen Apple Pie a combination of seasonal flavours with Ole Smoky Apple Pie Moonshine with added apple juice and cinnamon.

As usual, the Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the holidays will be taking place from 27 November through to the 30 December. However, there are some modifications and the saddest part is that the Candlelight Processional will not be happening.

However, there will be the cookie stroll and Olaf's Holiday Tradition Expedition, where map and stickers can be purchased to take place in the fun scavenger hunt - priced at $7.99.

There will be character promenades from Santa (in his horse drawn carriage up to 24/12), Mickey and Friends in their Christmas finery, our friends from the Frozen film franchise as well as the ever beautiful Disney Princesses.

The America Garden Theatre will present the Voices of Liberty and Mariachi Cobre. The JAMMitors will be performing on the Mill Stage and there will be gospel, R&B and holiday songs on the World Showcase Stage.

We have saved the best till last, there will also be the holiday kitchens, which we will review in an upcoming Patreon only show.

Our final discussion was around our top tips for visiting Walt Disney World with someone who had not been before.

338 - Villains

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 338, for Sunday 8th November 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio, or any good podcast catching apps. On this week's show we look at some On This Day in Disney History and then talk about some of our favourite villains.

Maleficent

Maleficent is the villain in the 16th, 1959 animated feature film - Sleeping Beauty and she is the self-proclaimed mistress of all evil. She is based upon a mix of the evil fairy godmother character from Charles Perrault's fairy tale Sleeping Beauty and the Brothers Grimm retelling of Little Briar Rose. The character was animated by the Disney legend Marc Davis and voiced by Eleanor Audley.

In 2014, Angelina Jolie played Maleficent in the live action version and again in 2019. Which is your favourite version of this character? Did you enjoy the live action 'backstory' version of the character?

Queen Grimhilde

Queen Grimhilde is also known as the Evil Queen, The Wicked Queen as well as her transformative character of the Old Hag. She is the villain in the first, 1937, Disney animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The film is similar to the Brothers Grimm version, where the villain is a cold, cruel, and extremely vain person - who owns a magic mirror. This mirror tells her who is the fairest in the land and the Evil Queen becomes obsessed being that.

You all know Michelle is a massive Snow White fan and it was no surprise that she chose this villain in her list!

Yzma

Yzma is the villain in the year 2000 animated film; Emperor's New Grove. She sees herself as being beautiful and is incredibly intelligent. This leads to her creating some very elaborate plans in a bit of a mad scientist rather than a magical sorceress manner. In the English version, her character was voiced by Eartha Kitt and she won two Emmy's for her role.

Ursula

Pat Carroll voiced Ursula - Credit Disney Parks Website

Ursula is a much loved villain from the 1989 (and 28th animated feature film) The Little Mermaid.  It is based upon the story of the Sea Witch, who offers a mermaid called Ariel the chance to become a human. Ariel, was desperate to find love with Prince Eric so agreed to some very unfair terms!

337 - Cast Members, Disney Store and a bit of History

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 337, for Sunday 1st November 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio, or any good podcast catching apps.

We lament the staff loses across the Disney company that were announced this last week, but take the time to recognise how much all those cast members mean to us and how they make our vacations so special.

Do you know how many Disney Stores there are worldwide? Have you ever been at a store opening? On the show we chat about the history behind the store and the traditions that have built up around them.

And on this day in history, in 1832, Kepple Disney, Walt's grnadfather, was born in Ireland. But do you know where you can see a reference to him in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World?

That is about it for this week and we hope you have enjoyed reading this blog as well as listening to the podcast. You can find us @DisDreamGirls on Instagram and Twitter. We have the Disney Dream Girls page on Facebook as well as the Disney Dream Girls Podcast Family.
