Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort opened on this day (17th May) in 1991 (Riverside opened on 2nd February 1992). They merged on 1st April 2001.

Also, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa opened in 2004. This resort was the former site of the Disney Institute is now a sprawling DVC resort.

Howard Ashman - playwright, lyrist and stage director was born on this day in 1950. Mr Ashman sadly passed away in 1991. He wrote all seven songs in the original animated classic The Little Mermaid and collaborated with Alan Menken - they won three academy awared in 1989 for this project. They also had success with Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. 

Mystic Point at Hong Kong Disneyland opened on this day in 2013.

Julie Svendsen - Concept Show Designer

Her father Julius was a Disney animator and he helped her to get a job as an accounting clerk at WED Enterprises in 1970. After several years of art school, and a BFA, she returned to WDI to work on the design teams for New Fantasyland at Disneyland, EPCOT, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Disneyland Paris, Disney California Adventure, The Disney Stores and Shanghai Disneyland.

Favourite project she worked on:
“I can’t say that I had any favorite projects—they were all interesting in their own way. Each was a new variety of challenges and creativity which ran the gamut from coming up with concepts for different areas of the Walt Disney World water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, to partnering with John Hench to sketch and create a montage of different Disneyland attractions for their appearance on bedspreads for the Disneyland Hotel.”

What is Svendsen’s favourite Disney Parks attraction?
“Wow, that’s a tough one. I’d say it’s a tie between Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. But, when I was a kid, I loved the Frontierland Mine Train attraction and the Tomorrowland Flying Saucers.”

Ms Bishop was a landscape architect, who began her career with imagineering in 1982. Her initial project was working on Splash Mountain in Disneyland. Tune in to find out more.

New Merchandise in the Magic Kingdom

Well there always is new merchandise isn't there. However, this item caught my eye. It is a $39.99 travel tumbler with a 520ml liquid capacity. It has a pop up straw, handle but it is not dishwasher or microwave friendly.  The lettering says Magic Kingdom. Our complaint? The letter 'a' features the Orange Bird so where is this character in the parks?

Bluey-Themed Food in Disneyland

From the 22nd March 2026, Bluey and Bingo themed foods arrived in Disneyland to link with the stage show 'Bluey's Best Day Ever!'

At the Troubadour Tavern, you will find baked potatoes, all-beef hot dogs. On the sweeterside, there are proffertjes (mini Dutch pancakes), magic 'asparagus' pretzels, a pavlova parfait and a watermelon block. Drinks include a concoction from Joffreys and a lime ice block drink.

Disney Believe Cruise Ship Name Announced

The fourth Wish Class ship's name was announced as Believe. What do you think about this choice?

We share the top five Disney princesses in terms of merchandise.

Disney Female Imagineer - Karen Connolly Armitage, Concept Designer

Ms Armitage began her Disney career in 1977  and she brought her background in theater performance and design to the imagineering team. 

Her first assignment was with Disney Legend Dorothea Redmond. She was instrumental in the overall design of Disney theme parks around the world, including attractions at EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Frontierland at Disneyland Paris, and Main Street at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Disney Theme Park Tours

Disneyland have debuted a brand new tour - Women Who Make the Magic Guidedn Tour.

It is 90 minutes long and looks at the contributions of female, Disney imagineers.

We then mention the current tours available at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Have you taken any of these?

I have been incredibly lucky to have done almost all of them and highly recommend them to people like us who want to know the details.
