594 The Disney Dream Girls

Welcome to the show for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast - show number 594 for Sunday 3rd May 2026.

As always, if you wish to listen right now - click the link below.

Julie Svendsen - Concept Show Designer

Her father Julius was a Disney animator and he helped her to get a job as an accounting clerk at WED Enterprises in 1970. After several years of art school, and a BFA, she returned to WDI to work on the design teams for New Fantasyland at Disneyland, EPCOT, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Disneyland Paris, Disney California Adventure, The Disney Stores and Shanghai Disneyland.

Favourite project she worked on:
“I can’t say that I had any favorite projects—they were all interesting in their own way. Each was a new variety of challenges and creativity which ran the gamut from coming up with concepts for different areas of the Walt Disney World water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, to partnering with John Hench to sketch and create a montage of different Disneyland attractions for their appearance on bedspreads for the Disneyland Hotel.”

What is Svendsen’s favourite Disney Parks attraction?
“Wow, that’s a tough one. I’d say it’s a tie between Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. But, when I was a kid, I loved the Frontierland Mine Train attraction and the Tomorrowland Flying Saucers.”

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

On this week's show, we welcome back our very good friends from Dis Down Under - Kat and Lewis. Together, we celebrate this our 400th show! Who knew back on 1st December 2013 we would still be releasing our views of Disney!

Kat and Lewis back in the day when they could travel
We start the show with talking about what the last couple of years have been like for them; being so isolated from the world of Disney in Perth, Australia. Then, discuss their future travel plans.

Then, we much our way through the highlights of the 2022 DCA Food and Wine Festival and they share some of the items they are wanting to try.

As we love our sweet treats, how about a mango churro or even a Snickers Caramel-peanut milk chocolate Mickey macaron but last but not least the raspberry spiral ration. Anything caught your eye yet?

As always, there are treats for every taste and we all fell for the old world aged white cheddar lager soup with toasted fig and prosciutto sandwich.

There are also lots of beverages to choose from and below is the blue peach basil cocktail and the smoked pineapple bourbon. Which looks the most appealing to you?

If you plan a trip - why not let us know your thoughts?

302 Marching on To Disney

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 302 for Sunday 1st March 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio or via any good podcast catching app. Bob Iger Stepping Down
This week we had the news that Bob Iger is stepping down as CEO of The Walt Disney Company with immediate effect and current Chairman of Disney Parks, Experience & Products, Bob Chapek, will take over. He will become the 7th CEO in the Walt Disney Company's almost 100 years existence.

Bob Eiger will assume the role of Executive Chairman and direct the company's creative endeavours while leading the board until 31st December 2021.

So what will this mean for Disney? Only time will tell!

Jungle Cruise Guests Get a Sinking Feeling
Bomokandi Bertha started taking in water on the very popular attraction - Jungle Cruise (over in Walt Disney . Disney released a statement in which they said the Reedy Creek Fire Department were on the scene quickly and that they worked with guests to enable them to continue their day.

New Spirit Jerseys

Jayne has been scouring websites for Disney merchandise. We discuss some of the new ones that are available.

Magic Happens
Jayne managed to view a youtube video of the parade and she shares some of her thoughts of this new Disneyland parade.

The parade has new music by Todrick Hall (Jayne is a bit of a fan!) and includes some amazing floats, stunning costumes and a very catchy soundtrack. It is full of glam, glitz and plenty of Disney camp.
Premiering officially on 28th February, the parade runs at 3.30pm and 6pm daily and makes its way from 'It's a small world' promenade to Main Street Town Square. Floats feature Mickey & Pals, Moana (even Hei Hei gets a special appearance), Coco, Frozen, Cinderella, Sword in the Stone, Princess & the Frog and Sleeping Beauty.
Many thanks to Tiffany Clontz for these photos - doesn't it look amazing?!!

Food and Wine Festival at DCA
This is running from the 28th of February to 21st April 2020. We will review the menus in full for our Patreon supporters, however, we did mention one or two items on the show.
What Would You Do if You Were CEO?
We discuss some of our listener's ideas on what they would do if they were given this role. Let's hope the message reaches the powers that be at Disney and we see some of these ideas coming in to play.

We end the show by wishing our good friend, David Maruca, a very happy birthday for the 7th March.

Disney Dream Girls 180 - Dining Delights and More At WDW

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls podcast for show number 180 for Sunday 8th October 2017. If you wish to listen to the podcast, whilst reading this blog, all you have to do is click on the audio player below. Alternatively, our podcast can be found in most places that host podcasts such as iTunes (click here to subscribe) and Stitcher Radio.

Coming up on this weeks show, Michelle is joined by fellow podcaster - Thomas Allison and together they talk through some of the joint experiences they had whilst at Walt Disney World this August.
Geyser Point Bar and Grill
If you are looking for a little escapism, good quality food that is attractively priced and a refreshing beverage then look no further - this is the place for you! This eatery was a favourite place to eat during our stay and we made sure our friends Tommy, Lena, Sam and Ashley all visited to enjoy the delicious food.
Bison Burger
The main attraction here is undoubtedly the bison burger, however I tried the lump cake cake sandwich and that was just as good. Whilst only a small area, there is further seating by the lake so I never found getting a table a problem.
After our delicious burger, we were able to watch Happily Ever After. We didn't know this beforehand but they pipe in the fireworks music and by the lakeside you can get a great non theme park view of the night sky being illuminated.
We then hot-footed it up to the Territory Lounge, a mere five minute walk. Up to 9.30pm you can order from the Artist Point menu and the star of the show are their warm donuts. In the paper bag were seven warm sugared donuts filled with a lingonberry jam. On the side was a rich coffee chocolate ganache. Sadly when writing up these show notes and checking on the menu, the filling of these seems to have changed... but try them - as I am sure they will be delicious.

Carolwood Pacific Room
For a close link to Walt, whilst at the Wilderness Lodge, you must visit the Carolwood Pacific Room. There you will find a small collection of artefacts linking Walt to his love of trains. It is just past the gift shop and down the pathway to Boulder Ridge Villas.

Homecoming Kitchen Another restaurant first for us was Chef Art Smiths Homecoming Kitchen. Whilst we have reviewed here a few times on the podcast, I personally had not been. Well the portions and quality are the reason why you need to visit. Simple southern food that is cooked well with lots of added love.

Signature Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Feta and Watermelon Summer Salad
Amorettes
Of course we couldn't visit Disney Springs without visiting our favourite cake shop (pardon me - patisserie!). As always, we had a delightful selection to choose from but you know what? I can't help but always having the same petit cake!
Food and Wine
This year was a first for us - neither of us had been to the Food and Wine festival and we had a great day but wish we would have visited a couple more times. The food on offer is of such a wide variety and some posing better value than others.  So my top tip is to hang around the book and check out what others are having! Anyway, here are my two top picks!
Chocolate Tart from The Chocolate Studio
We also went to a cookery demonstration by chef Valorie Entres. We booked this as a pastry class, so we were a little disappointed that is had turned in to being about bagels. However, Valarie was a gem and she did a great talk and boy those bagels were delicious!
So I hope we have given you some thought for thought for when you are planning your next trip to Walt Disney World! Remember, you can always email us to ask us a specific question and we will try our best to help.

Disney Dream Girls 166 - Brian, Brut and Chef Mickey

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls podcast for show number 166 for Sunday 9th July 2017. If you wish to listen to the podcast, whilst reading this blog, all you have to do is click on the audio player below. Alternatively, our podcast can be found in most places that host podcasts such as iTunes (click here to subscribe) and Stitcher Radio.

Coming up on this weeks show, Michelle and Jayne share a listeners experience of a family trip to Disneyland Paris, look forward to the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival menu and finally discuss the moving of Chef Mickeys to a conference room whilst its usual location is refurbished.
Firstly, we share some feedback from our listener Meaghan, who has recently returned from Disneyland Paris with her son. Whilst her trip to the Earl of Sandwich was not meant to be, she did love our other suggestions! Her son loved Mickey and the Magician as well as seeing all of the characters in the parade. Oh and she also got a picture of the fire-breathing dragon too!
This year, the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival will run for a staggering 75 days and starts on 31st August. As Michelle will be in Orlando at that time, the girls look ahead to what Michelle should try and what she wouldn't be!
Have you been to the festival? What top tips can you share? As this year will bring new booths too; it's all very exciting!
The final segment explores how much does the environment of the eatery feed into the experience. This idea was brought about due to Chef Mickeys relocating for around two weeks to a conference suite. What do you think? Would you cancel your advanced dining reservation?
We hope you have enjoyed this show and if you are looking to book a Disney or indeed any holiday, why not get in touch with our friends over at Holiday Hamster for a quotation  by clicking here.
