331 News, Disney History and Favourite WDW Rides

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 331, for Sunday 6th September 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio, or any good podcast catching apps.

So this show has quite a bit of news in it and then we moved on to a history segment before finishing off the show talking a little bit about our favourite Disney attractions.

Felix Salten
Disney used stories from the likes of Hans Christian Anderson and P L Travers to create his versions in the media of film. But if I mention Felix Salten to you - would you be able to guess the book he wrote that so many of us hold dear to our hearts?

On 6th September in 1869 in Austria-Hungary, Felix Salten was born and the family shortly after relocated to Vienna. Around the age of 16, he began work for an insurance agency but also wrote reviews and poems. He became known within the 'Young Vienna' movement and some of his stories were published.
In 1923 Bambi was published (being translated into English in 1928). Five years later he sold the rights for $1000 to American director Sidney Franklin, who in turn eventually sold them to the Walt Disney Studios.

Theme Park Closures
16th March 2020, Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris closed. This got me thinking to when else the park had closed. I was surprised that Disneyland had close on three prior occasions (Day of Mourning after the assassination of JFK, Northridge Earthquake, and September 11th).

However, I hadn't realised what Walt Disney World had closed so many times and that these closures were mainly due to Hurricanes (Floyd in September 1999; Charley, Frances, and Jeanne in August/September 2004; Matthew in October 2016; Irma in 2017 and Dorian in 2019). Additionally, Walt Disney World closed due to September 11th.

Some Disney News

Super cool foam beverage cups, designed by Jeff Granito have arrived in the parks.

The start of Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railroad has begun in Disneyland with the fixing of massive steel beams.

Nighttime offerings will be starting in Tokyo Disneyland.

Favourite Things
We then got down to discussing favourite attractions and why they pulled so much on our heartstrings - especially when there's so much choice! Jayne shared three of her favourites and the reasons why she loves them so much.

That is about it for this week and we hope you have enjoyed reading this blog as well as listening to the podcast. You can find us @DisDreamGirls on Instagram and Twitter. We have the Disney Dream Girls page on Facebook as well as the Disney Dream Girls Podcast Family.

328 A Dynamic Duo of Disney Fans Discuss Paris

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 328, for Sunday 16th August 2020. If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us on iTunes, Libsyn, Stitcher Radio, or any good podcast catching apps.
On this week's show, we welcome a duo of DLP fans to share with us their experience of making two trips to Disneyland Paris since it re-opened last month. This show was recorded prior to the change in quarantine rules when travelling to France from the UK.

Meet Daniel and Jamie; a pair of devoted Disneyland Paris fans. Daniel has been visiting DLP since 1992 whereas Jamie is a more recent convert, having been visiting for the past ten years. Once the parks re-opened they made two trips on consecutive weekends and they kindly joined us to share their opinions on the park with us.

Hotels
At the moment, the only Disney 'on-site' hotels that are accepting guests are the Newport Bay Club, Disney's Santa Fe, and Disney's Hotel Cheyenne; though this is changing constantly.
Daniel and Jamie stayed at the Newport Bay Club as well as at an off-site hotel and were impressed by the Covid measures in place in both locations. The found no need to use the bus from Newport Bay Club as the walk was quite short and the security procedure straight forwards to gain entrance to the parks.

In-Park
Once in the park, there are plenty of sanitising stations (pre-eateries, shops, and at the entry of attraction queues), and cast members will insist and watch you as you use them. Masks are to be worn and removing them for attractions or photography is not tolerated. In fact, they had seen people been escorted out of the park for non-compliance.

Whilst they do not have any 'relaxation zones' (a place where you are permitted to remove your mask in the park), if you are seated and eating food or having a drink it is permitted to remove your mask.

Food
They were impressed by the table-service meals they had (as well as the quick service) but found the buffet's re-imagined offerings catered more for a European market so for their second trip they decided to cancel their bookings.
Bookings can be made via the Disneyland Paris App or by telephoning 60 days in advance and this is highly recommended.

Characters
They are both self-confessed Disney character junkies and as you can see from the pictures - DLP has done a fabulous job making the characters visible but socially distant.

Prior to visiting they urge you to download the Lineberty app as a lot of the experiences in DLP have to be made via this.

That's about it for this week. To find out more about our fabulous guests, you can find them on Instagram and youtube @dandjdisney or on their DLP dedicated page on Facebook - Disneyland Paris Advice.

We celebrate the talents of Cliff Edwards born on 14th June 1895.

Splash Mountain Re-Theme
Yet again, rumours have resurfaced about Splash Mountain losing its tie into Song of The South. So, on the show, we share opinions from Jim Korkis and Len Testa. Before we share some 'armchair imagineering' thoughts of our listeners.

Jim Korkis has been on these previous show and I highly recommend you pop back and listen to these shows:

Disney Dream Girls Show 93 - Song of The South
Disney Dream Girls Show 122
Disney Dream Girls Show 122 - Minnie Mouse History
Disney Dream Girls 171 - Walt's Love of Trains
Disney Dream Girls 185 - Water Pageant
Disney Dream Girls 294 - Walt at Christmas
If you haven't read any of his books, search your local bookshop (or online retailer of choice) for Vault of Walt and books by Jim Korkis.

We end the show, by talking about what Disney foods we would order if they were offered for delivery.

That's about it for this week. You can find us @DisDreamGirls on Instagram and Twitter. We have the Disney Dream Girls page on Facebook as well as the Disney Dream Girls Podcast Family. DDG 253 The Kat and Lewis Pre Trip Show

Welcome to the show notes for the Disney Dream Girls Podcast, show number 253 for Sunday 24th March 2019.  If you want to listen, whilst reading these notes, just click the player below or alternatively find us in iTunes, Libsyn, on Stitcher Radio or via any good podcast catching app.

On this weeks show, Michelle is joined by Kat and Lewis (of Disn Down Under) to talk about their upcoming epic trip to Disneyland, Walt Disney World and then on for a seven day cruise on the Disney Fantasy!
Kat and Lewis on a past adventure
On the show, they discuss some of their plans and Michelle uses this opportunity to share top tips from herself, and other listeners, to ensure Kat and Lewis have an amazing trip!

In Disneyland, they were unsure about the Steam Train Tour. Firstly, they could not see any dates but also whether it would be as good as Walt Disney World's version.

The Lilly Belle Carriage
Lewis pointed out, for him the draw was a ride in the Lilly Belle carriage.
The View from the Chefs Counter
Another first for Disneyland for them is going to be eating at Napa Rose Chefs Counter. Michelle has previously done this (and heartedly recommends it).
Pop Century - Watch Out For the Beds!
With a short stop in New Orleans, they are then off to Walt Disney World for a split stay at Pop Century and then on to The Polynesian Resort.
The Monorail Transports You Around The Loop For Dinner
During that part of the trip, they have a whole host of highlights but one that we speak about in detail is the Highway in the Sky Dine Around Progressive Dinner - thanks to listener Jodie and all of her top tips!
They end their epic quest with an Eastern Carribean Cruise  on the Disney Fantasy!
