284 Four Parks in One Day

On this week's podcast, Michelle chats with Tommy Allison to review some of the fun activities they did during their Walt Disney World trip in August. Four Parks in One Day For the challenge, we decided to set some rules. These were:

• One merchandise purchase per park
• Ride at least one attraction
• Meet Mickey and Minnie in each park
• Have our picture taken in front of the park's icon
• Try a food item - whether a snack, counter service or sit down meal.

We decided to start with Disney Animal Kingdom (DAK), purely because we wanted to end our night at EPCOT and we wanted a late lunch at Disney Hollywood Studios (DHS). So that left the Magic Kingdom and DAK and as DAK opened the earlier we opted to start there.

As we entered, we walked towards the Tree of Life and stopped for a picture before heading off to meet Mickey and Minne. We rode Everest then grabbed a snack from Kusafari Bakery and a coffee from Starbucks. It was here it was decided that the park purchases would be the Starbuck's espresso cups.  

Then, it was time to head on over to the Magic Kingdom to meet Mickey and Minnie! Utilising a breakfast ADR at the Wave, we were able to park at the Contemporary Resort and walk across to the Magic Kingdom.  

After a very magical meet with Mickey and Minnie, we rode the Seven Dwarves Mine Train but alas we were unable to ride Space Mountain as it was not operational. However, we rode the People Mover and got some great shots of the lit-up interior!  

We visited Starbucks for our second espresso cup and had the Peter Pan float (which was delicious). By this time, it was around 1.30pm and we had to make tracks to DHS.

  Upon arrival, we decided to head straight to meet Mickey and Minnie. Unfortunately they did not meet together here but the backdrops and outfits that they wore were amazing.
Our next stop was a late lunch at Sci Fi Diner. I had the buffalo chicken salad (wow it was spicy) and everyone else had burgers. It was nice to sit down and enjoy the movie reel and air conditioning!

Before we left, we dropped by the Tower of Terror and then Starbucks (purchased the third espresso cup) for the amazing carrot cake cookie. Its recipe did change a couple of years back and it is now cakeier but I love it and it can be easily shared between two. 

As the sun began to slink down in the sky, we knew it was time to leave and we were fortunate to grab an on the day Fastpass to meet the characters over at EPCOT. So off we went.

On arrival at EPCOT we had our picture taken by Space Ship Earth and then achieved our last meet and greet of the day. Again, Mickey and Minnie were not meeting together but due to the Fastpass, we had a minimal wait. 

We got our final Starbucks mug and grabbed a School Bread from Kringla Bakeri. We rode Living With The Land and waited out to view Illuminations.  

Our four parks in one day sounds exhausting but it wasn't. We plodded at our own speed and used a plan to ensure we met our aims. Have you tried a similar challenge? We would love to hear from you if you have.

Disney Dream Girls 184 - Fireworks and Missed Attractions

Fantasmic - Debut Date 15th October 1998
This is a 26 minute show in a specially constructed arena that can accommodate 6,900 seated guests  with a further 3,000 standing guests. You are invited to join Mickey Mouse for a festival of lasers, lights dancing fountains and special effects.

Illuminations Reflection of Earth, EPCOT - Debut Date 1st October 1999
This is a 12 minute show that takes place around world Showcase Lagoon.  Images are projected on to a giant sphere in the middle of the lagoon and this retells the Earth's incredible tale from pre-man to now. The sphere then blossoms like a flower, exposing a ball of fire and leads into the shows finale. Fireworks, fire, lasers, projections and water screens tell the story with a fabulous final song.

Star Wars a Galactic Spectacular, Disney Hollywood Studios - Debut Date 17 June 2016
This is a 12 minute show that takes place in front of the Chinese Theatre. This show has pyrotechniques, projection mapping, fire, lasers, fog/smoke effects and search lights.  Starts with a brief narrated prologue of the 1977 premiere of Star Wars at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California. Then it is divided into segments dedicated to battles, heroes, creatures, romance, and villains. The show concludes with a montage of all seven original Star Wars film poster art  across the Chinese Theatre.

Remember Dreams Come True, Disneyland Resort - Debut Date 12th April 2018
This is a 17 minute show that takes place on and around Sleeping Beauty Castle. Julie Andrews is the host and you go on a tour of the lands of the happiest place on earth with appearances from Tinker Bell and an array of projections and fireworks.

Happily Ever After, Magic Kingdom - Debut Date 12th May 2017
This is a 18 minute show that takes place on and around Cinderella Castle. It includes projection mapping an pyrotechniques. The show is split into segments and each segments has a key theme linked to a Disney character. There are Wishes with Tiana, Adventure with Merida, Friendship with Aladdin, Love with Olaf, Adversity with the Emperor of China (from Mulan), Triumph with Mufasa. Then it returns to the narrator to invite guests to unlock the magic and then Tinker Bell takes flight scattering pixie dust.

Fantasmic, Disneyland Resort - Debut Date 17th July 2017 
Taking place on the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyers Island, this is an updated version of the original Fantasmic.
Guests share Mickey’s dream and witness the forces of good versus evil. It has special effects, water screens, projections, fire, pyrotechnics and lots more!
